Little Lougheed

Met Ali at 7 in the morning at Somerset. I was a little late due to a traffic jam on 6th street from the traffic coming off of 22X into Somerset station. Also had to get gas.

We initially drove passed the sparrowhawk rec area because we thought it was passed that sign but ended up backtracking when we realized we had passed it already. We were geared up and started the climb at 9:50 AM. We found a human trail from the highway and started on that. It was interesting to see the creek not frozen over at this time of year. there wasn't even a layer of ice over it at all. Curious how that had occured. The trail ended about 1/3 through treeline and then we started to break trail. Ali is faster than i am so he broke trail most of the way especially when we had our snow shoes on. We took a break for lunch around noon when we 75% way up treeline. And then made the summit at 1:20 pm. 2.5 hours essentially. We spent about 30 minutes at the summit. It was surprising that the weather at the summit was not windy at all especially when there were 60 kmh winds in calgary and -29 with wind chill. My thermometer read -10 C at the top and it felt like there was no wind at all. We also saw a full circle rainbow on the summit of sparrowhawk which was quite fascinating. Tried to take a picture but the sun was in the middle of the rainbow circle. After eating and photos, we pretty much descended the same way we came up. Ended back at the car at 3:30 pm. So a little less than 4 hours if we didn't include the break at the summit.

Great day and great weather especially after being frozen in the Ghost the 2 days prior!
